A School Built by the Community

Old Brooklyn Community School began with a simple goal: give families in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood a smaller, more supportive place for their children to learn.

What started in 1998 as a small Montessori-style program has grown into a trusted community school serving families across Cleveland. While the school has grown, our mission remains the same—create a safe, welcoming environment where students build strong academic skills and develop character.

Today, our campus serves students from kindergarten through 8th grade, helping them grow from curious learners into confident young leaders.

Academic Overview

Our academic program is designed to support students at every stage of their learning journey while maintaining a close-knit community environment.

  • Kindergarten–4th Grade: Young learners build strong foundations through hands-on learning, small-group instruction, and character-focused lessons that encourage curiosity and confidence.
  • Grades 5–8: Middle school students develop independence and leadership skills while preparing for high school through challenging academics, technology integration, and mentorship from supportive teachers.

Our students benefit from:

  • Small-Group Learning: Teachers regularly work with students in smaller groups to provide individualized instruction and support.
  • Character Education: Students explore core values like respect, honesty, responsibility, and compassion throughout the school year.
  • Well-Rounded Experiences: Students participate in art, music, physical education, and enrichment programs that build creativity and confidence.

A School Where Students Feel Known

Relationships are at the heart of our school community.

Students learn in a safe, structured environment where teachers and staff work closely with families to support each child’s growth. They experience:

  • Teachers who know students and families personally
  • A supportive environment with clear expectations
  • Strong communication between school and home
  • A welcoming community where every student belongs

Support Beyond Just the Classroom

We believe students succeed when they feel supported both academically and personally. They receive:

  • Free breakfast and lunch
  • Free tutoring and additional academic support
  • 1:1 technology and modern classrooms
  • Counseling and social-emotional support services

Families can also take advantage of on-site aftercare through Horizon Education Centers and transportation options for qualifying students.
