Dear Students and Families of OBCMS,

Welcome to Old Brooklyn Community Middle School!

As the Dean of Family and Community Engagement, it is my honor to warmly welcome all new and returning students and their families. I am excited to start this academic journey with you and to be part of our dedicated school community.

My name is William Utt, and I have had the privilege of being a part of OBCMS for the last 17 years. During this time, I have taught Science and Social Studies, and now get to continue what has been the most rewarding aspect of my career, which is building positive relationships with the students of OBCMS. I take great pride in helping students communicate more effectively, understand the impact of their words and actions, and develop confidence and integrity.

As we embark on this new school year, I am filled with excitement and optimism for the growth and achievements that await us. I am eager to witness the incredible progress and development our students will make. With our combined efforts, we will create a supportive and nurturing environment where every student thrives. Together, let’s make this year successful, fulfilling, and full of wonderful experiences for everyone at Old Brooklyn Community Middle School!

Dear Old Brooklyn Middle Families,

Welcome to another great year at Constellation Old Brooklyn Community Middle School. My name is Mrs. Rybak and I am the Executive Principal of our middle school along with other schools within our network of schools. I am excited to get to know everyone and am excited for the upcoming year! The first day of school is Wednesday, August 19th. Doors open at 7:45am and dismissal is at 3:15pm. Students are tardy at 8:01am. There are two sessions for our Open House, which will occur on August 17th from 1:00pm – 3:00pm, and 4:00pm – 6:00pm. There will also be a mandatory parent meeting during each session that will begin at 2:30pm and 5:30pm. I hope to see everyone there! Open House is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, tour the classrooms, and learn more about the initiatives at the middle school.

The most important reminders I have included in this letter are as follows:

  • School Hours: Doors open at 7:45am
  • Breakfast 7:45am-8:00am
  • Students are tardy at 8:01am
  • ALL Students are dismissed at 3:15pm
  • Please note: Teachers and staff will be holding all PD and meetings BEFORE school. The office will close PROMPTLY at 3:30pm every day.
  • Office hours are 7:45am-3:30pm. (Calls can be accepted 7:30am-3:30pm)
  • Visitors are by appointment only.
  • Re-enrollment is completed on SalesForce.
  • A current (within the last 30 days) proof of residency is required for ALL students.
  • Students must each have an up to date Emergency Medical Form which can be found in the Welcome Packet. Students cannot be at school without this.
  • Once the school year begins, please remember to register on Class Dojo to Constellation Schools Old Brooklyn Community Middle School. You will also need to register in each of your child’s classes.
  • Please do not message me on Class Dojo as I get many messages. You may email or call me.
  • Students are not permitted to have their cell phones, airpods, smart watches, Beats, etc. Cell phones must be locked up in provided bins for the entire school day.
  • Please purchase simple, WIRED EARBUDS PLAIN BLACK IN COLOR for your child to use this year. NO EXPENSIVE HEADPHONES ARE PERMITTED. We do not want them lost, broken, or stolen.
  • Absolutely NO HOODIES are to be worn inside the school. This INCLUDES School-Branded Hoodies. They must ONLY be worn outside when weather permits.

Arrival Procedures:

All students are to enter via the Middle School entrance to the right of the main entrance by the roundabout which is accessed on Dawning.

Doors close at 8:00am and students are considered tardy at 8:01am.

Dawning is a ONE WAY street from 7:00am-9:00am and again from 2:00pm-4:00pm.

PLEASE DRIVE 20MPH! It is a SCHOOL ZONE!

Please be patient and obey all laws for the safety of children, families, and staff.

Dismissal Procedures:

Dismissal begins at 3:15pm. See attached information.

Please drive 20 mph and follow all traffic laws.
