Happy October Everyone! October is my favorite month! The fall weather is perfect, the trees are wearing their most brilliant autumn colors, and the food and drink gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling inside. We have lots going on here at Westside. We just finished our iReady testing and we’re already starting our OST benchmark testing. Please make sure our students are on time so that they are not missing important testing time.

In this issue we are Celebrating National Book Month with a piece from our wonderful Middle School ELA teacher Mrs. Dreger. In our fun links section I invite you and your student to share my favorite Halloween story. I also have links to a video to help you learn how to prepare your student for our OST benchmark tests. So come on down and join us for one of the events this month and have a safe and happy Halloween!

Reminders

  • Students must have a note from a doctor to be allowed fidgets, or similar items to school. If a note is not present all Items will be confiscated.

Who Doesn’t Love a Good Book?

In observance of National Book Month Mrs. Dreger our Middle School ELA teacher is sharing a bit about her favorite reads.

My favorite book is Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. I love this book because the relationships between the characters feel so real, and the way they support each other makes the whole story meaningful. The theme really resonates with me, especially the idea that people can help each other heal and grow. It’s the kind of story that stays with you long after you finish it.

A good book is an open door to another world, a new way of thinking. A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who
never reads lives only one. Make sure you take the time this month to go through that backlog on your shelf and treat yourself to a new experience.

A Letter From Ms. Clark

Dear Wolverine Families,

As we welcome October, we are excited to continue building a positive, safe, and successful learning environment for all our Wolverines! We appreciate your continued partnership and support as we work together to help every student grow academically, socially, and emotionally. This month, we are emphasizing three important expectations:

Attendance Matters Every Day: Every school day counts! Regular attendance is essential to academic success, building relationships, and keeping students on track. Please make every effort to ensure your child arrives at school on time and is present every day.

The Wolverine Way: We expect all students to demonstrate responsibility, respect, kindness, and perseverance each day. Our Wolverines are encouraged to make positive choices, show pride in their school, and treat others with kindness.

Zero Tolerance for Disrespect: Respect is non-negotiable at WCSA. Disrespectful behavior toward staff, students, or others will not be tolerated. We ask our families to reinforce the importance of using appropriate language, following directions, and treating everyone with dignity.

Thank you for your continued commitment to Westside Community School of the Arts. Together, we can make October a wonderful month of learning, growth, and positive choices!
